The Art of Adornment: Inge Kern & Minjin Lee

독일 출신의 잉게 케른 작가는 보헤미아, 무라노 섬, 아프리카 그리고 자신의 작업실에서 온 앤틱과 현대적 유리 비즈를 활용해 독창적이고 단 하나뿐인 목걸이 작품을 선보입니다. 케른 작가의 작품은 각 작품이 독창적이고 유일무이하며, 색상 팔레트가 제한된 미니멀한 디자인부터 다양한 기법, 색상, 형태, 크기, 리듬을 가진 큰 스테이트먼트 피스까지 다양하며, 과거와 현재, 시간이 교차하는 아름다움을 담고 있습니다.

뉴욕 스쿨 오브 비주얼 아트 일러스트 석사 과정을 마친 이민진 작가는 따뜻한 추억과 새로운 시선을 시각적 이야기로 풀어냅니다. 책, 잡지, 광고 등의 분야에서 활발히 활동하며, 곱고 매트한 아크릴 과슈의 특장점을 살려 색을 여러 번 덧칠하는 방식으로 독특한 색감을 표현합니다. 작품에 등장하는 자연물, 일상적인 사물들, 그리고 인물들은 평면적이면서도 다소 인위적인 형태로 그려져, 현실과 약간은 동떨어진 감정과 상황을 담아냅니다.

이번 <The Art of Adornment> 전시는 케른 작가의 아름다운 목걸이를 이민진 작가의 작품 속에 담아내며, 하나의 예술을 넘어 목걸이와 그것을 착용한 인물이 주인공이 되는 특별한 경험을 선사합니다. 두 작가의 시선이 교차하며 만들어낸 이 공간에서, 목걸이는 단순한 장신구를 넘어 하나의 이야기로 새롭게 태어납니다.

The collaboration exhibition, The Art of Adornment, by artists Inge Kern and Minjin Lee, is being presented at E.N. Gallery.

Inge Kern, a German artist, presents unique and one-of-a-kind necklace artworks using antique and contemporary glass beads from Bohemia, Murano Island, Africa, and her own studio. Kern's works range from minimalist designs with a limited color palette to large statement pieces with various techniques, colors, shapes, sizes, and rhythms. Each piece embodies a beauty where the past and present, and time itself, intersect.

Minjin Lee, who earned a Master's degree in Illustration from the New York School of Visual Arts, expresses warm memories and fresh perspectives through visual storytelling. Active in fields such as books, magazines, and advertising, she uniquely conveys color by layering multiple coats of acrylic gouache, emphasizing its soft, matte texture. The natural elements, everyday objects, and figures in her works are drawn in flat, somewhat artificial forms, capturing emotions and situations that feel slightly detached from reality.

This The Art of Adornment exhibition captures Kern’s beautiful necklaces within Lee’s artwork, offering a special experience where the necklace and the figure wearing it become the central focus. In this space where the two artists' perspectives converge, the necklace is reborn as more than just an accessory; it becomes a story.

Just as Kern’s beads reflect light and color, Lee’s paintings illuminate everyday moments with a new perspective. The artworks of both artists invite you to experience a dialogue of texture, transparency, and timeless beauty.
